80% piracy, 0% profit from pirates
by Clemens on Okt.25, 2009, under General
A game producer has analyzed usage statistics of their I-Phone game and noted that 80% of the players in the high score list consisted of pirates and that 0% of those players bought the game later in the shop.
So much for that argument by the pirates!

A visit to the “Games Academy” in Frankfurt
by Clemens on Okt.14, 2009, under General
Yesterday I visited the “Games Academy” in Frankfurt. You can find their website here (german). There was a short presentation about Game Design and then an open question time about the academy itself, the game industry and the curriculum. All in all a very interesting concept. I don’t know yet if it’s worth the time but they sure offer some interesting lectures and more importantly have a very good contact to the games industry. It would be a cool addition to my degree in C.S. but I don’t know if I want to invest another two years… There is a trial course in march, I might want to join that one
In the meantime I will find a work somewhere else, continue to program on my own project and maybe do some self-studying. I think I’m lacking a bit experience working with up-to-date game programming libraries/tools, I still miss those old days with ModeX when everything was easy and straightforward
Now it’s all bloom and 3D
Finishing work, new perspectives…
by Clemens on Sep.20, 2009, under General
Last friday I finished a major project at university. I am working as a research assistant there and got the job to write a paper about my diploma thesis. It turned out very well, now I’m waiting for some responses to make some final adjustments. After that I have to complete a small consulting job at a different project (rearranging some code in a large software project, a virtual robot simulation), then all that is left is learning for my final exam.
New perspectives, well, I thought again about starting my promotion at university (Ph.D.) but I will wait until I have the responses of all the companies I wrote to. Currently I’m looking out into the game industry, maybe they have some interesting positions (e.g. artificial intelligence), and they pay well I have heard
Netbooks…

I finally got one of these, partly because I suddenly needed a cheap replacement for my broken laptop, partly because I wanted to have a real portable unit.
I feared that all this thing could do was maybe wordpad and some simple email program… how wrong I was! Despite its relatively slow Atom280 processor it runs nearly everything I need
Office, programming, web, videos, … One has to remember that speed depends also heavily on the harddisk ![]()
It has 10 hours of battery, a 1024×600 screen, 2GB RAM and running WinXP. Opening several HQ videos is a bad idea, multimedia in general and compiling is notable slower, but other than that it’s perfect :> With a large external monitor (up to 2048×1536) it easily replaces my old (much faster) laptop.
Oh, I bought the 1005HA-H model from Asus
Returning from “talents”
by Clemens on Sep.08, 2009, under General
I finally have some time to write about my experiences at the “talents” job faire in munich. All in all it was an interesting experience, so many well-dressed job applicants at one place!
I talked to several companies, the main subject was what exactly they mean when advertising a job as an “IT-Analyst”, “IT-Consultant”, “IT-Expert” etc.
The main things I have learned are the following:
- Trust your instinct, if you feel bad about a company (and if your feeling corresponds to your wishes and if you have enough self-awareness) then follow the feeling and apply somewhere else ![]()
- My education is more worth than I thought
- Every applicant has nothing but A-Grades, is running three companies and speaks ten languages (
– titles and job experience count!)
- I know now better what I actually expect from a job
- Having a C.V. in english would be cool
- Always take with you electronic equipment (my laptop was broken :< ), it helps
Oh and most important:
- Internships help to determine which job you like
Me at “Talents” in Munich
by Clemens on Aug.16, 2009, under General
On 8/25/09 and 8/26/09 I’m in Munich at the “Talents” job fair (see www.talents.de ). I’m curious what firms there are and I hope for some interesting speeches and talks.
Just drop me a line if you want to meet me in Munich or if you’re a visitor at the job fair as well.

This page will be filled with news of my professional work in the field of information technology.
My old page disintegrated over time, I hope I can update my projects with WordPress better than with the old html / phpbb system
